Burl

Burl Jives is Back!

Burl's creator, Joe Edwards, one of Mindport's orginal founders, lovingly re-crafted our musical burl with a facelift and a whole new operating system. You'll be excited by the changes and by exploring all the new sounds available.

Washtub Kevin demonstrates how to play the new Washtub Bass. You'll find it hiding in a wonderfully resonant spot at the back of the interactive area, behind the fish tanks.

Tornado Sound Sculpture

Roll a marble or three down this cascading wooden track and listen to the water-drop rhythm as they make their way to the bottom.

Fishes
The remaining three main residents or our Aquatic  Ecosystem exhibit continue to thrive. Sadly, little one-eye, who lost her eye early-on in an altercation with an invading dragonfly nymph, is now deceased. We're amazed she survived as long as she did.  Long live one-eye.

Our only complaint is that the more you feed the three survivors the more they grow. But at least we don't have to fret about our biggest bruiser going cannabilistic with one-eye.

Maybe our ecosystem needs a couple herons to keep things in balance. Don't worry guys, I'm just kidding.

Again, this year, we introduced a number of frog eggs to the exhibit that eventually hatched tadpoles. They duly metamorphosed into young frogs the size of your thumbnail.

As we did last year, we released the youngsters into the Lummi Island pond where we collected the eggs. Next spring they can add their voices to the evening mating chorus of their wild-grown fellows.
